Three-thousand, five-hundred cases of Jarhead Wines are produced each year at $15 a bottle. So far, they’ve raised a half million dollars, said Firestone. “For me to be a part of the Jarhead Red program is something very special,” said Chuck Carlson, general manager of Curtis Winery in Los Olivos, where the wines are made. “It gives us all a special feeling, knowing that we are a part of something that continues to touch the lives of those who have served.”

HARVEST UPDATE: WHITES ARE IN, HERE COME THE REDS

October 18, 2011--After a warm spell last week that saw temperatures in the Santa Ynez Valley reach the low 90s, the 2011 harvest season is in high gear at Curtis Winery. Our estate white varietals have now all been picked, and we picked our first Syrah of the vintage on Saturday, with more to come this week. Our Grenache, Mourvedre and Cinsault are still a few weeks out, but what was looking like a late harvest is now settling into a more typical schedule. Yields are low due to the April frost, but we are seeing a corresponding fruit intensity that bodes well for the wines of the 2011 vintage.

NEW LOOK FOR HERITAGE SERIES

May 12, 2011--This week we bottled our 2010 vintage Heritage Blanc and Heritage Rosé, both of which inaugurate a new label for our Heritage Series wines. Our aim was to establish a fresh look while retaining familiar elements that represent our roots. On that note, we have enrolled the existing Curtis font and grape cluster motif into a bolder, more colorful palette. We like to say that our Heritage Series wines are born of the sun, forged by the soil and offered in a spirit of everyday enjoyment. We feel that the new label artfully expresses this philosophy. The labels were designed by iii Design of San Luis Obispo.
